I’m sitting on a plane, waiting for our flight back to Cebu to take off, trying to sink in everything that has happened the last two days. The highlight of it all? The Lion King.
Incredible. Amazing. Fantastic. Marvelous. Exciting. Breathtaking. Wonderful. I’m lost for words, but the New York Times was absolutely right, there’s definitely nothing like it! From beginning up to the end, you will love it.
The Lion King is a film that never gets old. Growing up, you find yourself watching the movie over and over again and brings so much nostalgia when you watch it now. The story is not just the reason why it’s so successful but also the music. My sister would always sing Elton John’s Can You Feel The Love Tonight during karaoke nights. The song would always give you chills.
When Disney produced a live musical, I was hoping that I could someday fly to New York and watch it. I’ve heard great reviews about it and I find myself wondering if I’ll ever get to see it. Imagine my excitement when they announced that they’ll be coming to Manila. I’ve been waiting for this trip since last September 2017 and it’s finally here! And they did not disappoint!
We were sitting on the first row just behind the orchestra and we can literally tap the conductor’s shoulder. The view from our seats made me appreciate the production even more because I saw everything! Every expression, every motion, every sweat, and every detail. The fact that everything is live is amazing, even the sound effects! And the best part? The conductor. He dazzles as he was conducting the musicians and cast. Every once in a while, he’d look left smiling at the drummer and then he’d look right laughing with the guy in charge of the sound effects. He’d laugh at the cast’s adlibs as if it’s his first time doing the show. He poured out his heart the whole time and the result is nothing short of fantastic.
All the cast were amazing but the one that caught my eyes was the actress of young Nala. Like I said, I was in front, so I saw everything, and this young girl’s energy is everything! The expression of her eyes would give you goosebumps. She’s so young but full of talent. She knew what she was doing and definitely knows where she’s headed. I had the chance to meet her after the show and she’s just the sweetest.
The producers really put so much attention in every detail and that’s the reason why the show is so successful. From the stage design, to the music, to the sound effects, to the lights, and to the cast, everything was perfect. You’ll leave the room feeling inspired and you’ll gain good memories from it.
