Last April 19, 2018, my youngest sister, Ella, graduated from Elementary. I still couldn’t believe that she’s about to enter high school. It seems like it was just yesterday that she was born, now she’s even taller than me. Time really does fly.
We only found out on that day that she’ll be graduating with honors. As a proud of sister, I was really excited. I took a lot of pictures before the program started and when it did, I was busy going through the photos, thinking about which ones should I post on Facebook (guilty!). I didn’t notice that the message was starting until I stopped looking at my camera. PCGS invited Rev. Macky Sabayle to speak that day and although it was short, it had a great impact on me. Allow me to share to you what I have learned.
The Scripture was found in Romans 12:2. It’s a verse that I’ve encountered so many times and even have it memorized. But the three points the speaker shared were made simple and easy to remember.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
I. Dare to be Different “Do not conform to the pattern of this world”
Growing up, we’ve always wanted to fit in because the world we live in is inviting us to be like them. It showcases a pattern that we should follow because if we don’t, they won’t accept us, but the Bible tells us otherwise.
1 Peter 2:9 says “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
We are chosen to be different.
II. Direct your focus to God “but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
With the things that we’re currently involved in, it’s so easy to lose focus. Once that happens, falling into temptation will be easy too. So, it’s really important to keep our focus on God.
III. Discover God’s Will “Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Being able to discover what God’s Will for your life is one of the best moments you’ll ever have. Knowing who you are, and your purpose will set a right direction.
In conclusion, no matter how “successful” we think we are, none of that would matter if we don’t get to become what God wants us to be. We’re meant to be different, to be focused on Him, and to be knowledgeable of His will. To be able to do that, we need to read God’s Word everyday so that we will be guided in our daily walk of life.
